“I feel very proud to win the WIB Aspiring Entrepreneur of the Year. I could not have got where I am today with out the endless support of my husband Alex and my dedicated team of Fijian glass blowers Peter and Laisa”

She continued “We would like to thank everyone for your kind words and congratulations, I feel very humbled and proud to win the WIB Aspiring Entrepreneur of the Year.”

WIB president Dr Nur Bano Ali said women present at the function were the movers and shakers of the corporate world.

Dr Ali said their aim was to promote the participation of women in areas of business and their workshops and networking sessions were for this purpose. She said it was encouraging to note that the Government had five permanent secretaries and the parliament had a woman Speaker.

“This goes to show that Fiji is progressing,” Dr Ali said.

Hot Glass Fiji

Alice Hill, owner and operator of Hot Glass Fiji, and her team of glassblower artists have been operating in Korotogo on the Coral Coast since 2013.

Alice continued to thank her support, “Peter and Laisa joined the company earlier this year without any glass blowing experience, and they have learned the skills at a fantastically fast rate. The Fijian’s intuitive understanding of the artisan handicraft production shows though in all the glass pieces made”

“The glass pieces are inspired by Fiji’s natural beauty, colours of the rainforests and ocean. The natural fibres and textures used in Fijian culture feature dominantly.”

This gives visitors and locals alike a little piece of Fiji to have with them where ever in the world they live”

Women in Business (WIB) aspiring business woman of the year awardAbout WIB Awards

The WIB Business Awards was held on Friday 13th May 2016 at the Grand Pacific Hotel. The event was totally sold out weeks in advance!

Woman in Business Awards was founded in 1998 to promote and facilitate the economic and commercial interest of women.

The WIB awards celebrate and recognise women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their business or profession and in their service to the community.

WIB president Dr Nur Bano Ali said “WIB was established 16 years ago in order to promote and facilitate the economic and commercial interest of women and works to encourage and stimulate in women a realisation, and acceptance of their responsibility in the community, nationally and internationally,” she says.

“The encouragement of women to acquire education and occupational competencies by providing assistance through the networking facilities of other affiliated women’s organisations.”

It is also an active support mechanism to increase the participation of women in all commercial sectors of society right from the micro and small business to management and executive positions in business enterprises.

WIB is driven by an executive board of eight professional women from diverse business and commercial backgrounds engaged in leadership roles in various key Fijian institutions.

“We are cognisant of the inadequate participation of women in Fiji’s commercial landscape and we are working to change this,” Dr Ali said.
