Iloilo on its way home to Fiji…

Mini Melt

Hot Glass Fiji’s glass furnace is an innovative design by well known glass artist KT Yun . KT’s “Mini melt” furnaces are a new departure from traditional static brick furnaces which run 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

‘The Mini Melt’ can be fired up and in two hours you are working with molten glass.

When you finish, you turn it off.

The furnace is not only able to melt the glass but is also a Glory Hole where the glass can be reheated during the process thus making it a more efficient piece of equipment.

This furnace is excellent for small glass production, one off designs and teaching. Another major advantage of the Mini melt is that it is portable.

Ilo ilo
Iloilo

This means that we are able to take the glass studio to events and functions here in Fiji, giving glass blowing demonstrations and even letting people try it out for themselves!

In the Glass world furnaces are usually named – don’t ask me why, it is just what we do!

So our furnace is called Iloilo – Fijian for Glass.
